Mesa, Arizona; Mesa Spirit RV Resort, Saguaro Lake, & the Consolidated Canal path (2/12/21 to 2/25/21) Blog post 140

At the beginning of December, Neil started to complain about numbness going down his arm and sometimes painful. While in Yuma, we established a primary care doctor, who referred Neil for an MRI, which confirmed he has part of his spinal cord is beginning to be compressed and he needs to see a surgeon. There is only 1 surgeon in Yuma, and his waitlist is 3 months out. My mother in law just happens to live in the Phoenix area and referred us to her surgeon, who just happens to take our insurance. I was able to make us a reservation via Thousand Trails at the Mesa Spirit RV which is an Encore park.

Mesa Spirit RV park is HUGE! This is mostly a mobile home park with RV sites in between. Unfortunately most RV sites are so narrow, so backing our 44ft 5th wheel in was a challenge. It took Neil in the back, and 2 camp workers guiding and watching both sides. We blocked traffic for a good 20 minutes trying to get us in without taking out mailboxes, mobile home awnings, or any other obstacles. There were nice long Pull thru's, across from us that were empty the entire time we were there (2 weeks), but those are reserved for non Thousand Trail members.   I walked daily and still never was able to walk the whole park.

While we waited for Neil's consultation appointment with the surgeon, we explored the nearby trail called the Consolidated Canal Path. We rode our bikes about 1/4 of a mile until we reached an entrance to the trail. The path runs parallel to the consolidated canal, thus its name. There were so many ducks and fish in canal, but there were 2 ducks, that were sitting on the steps and appeared to be having a conversation. I could not zoom in on them enough to catch what they were saying LOL!

The canal path has the Cubs and Athletics baseball logos on the path. All you do is take the path with your team logo and it will lead you right to their spring training stadiums. We passed by the Athletics stadium on one of our rides.

On our last day, and on our way to take our last bike ride on the consolidated path, Neil's front tire hit a groove in the sidewalk and down he went. Though it does not look so bad in the picture; this fall messed him up. He hurt his elbow and had a long recovery.
