Making our California King bed fit into the 5th wheel! Blog post 12
So If anyone has ever laid on the mattress that comes with the RV, you know that it is not comfortable, and there is no amount of mattress pads or covers that will make it better.
We have 2 "standard twin" mattresses on adjustable bases, which we absolutely love and can't imagine sleeping on anything less.
I was bound and determined to make our mattress fit, and I did. I dragged those 2 heavy mattress out using a moving dolly. If someone would have videotaped me, they would have gotten a huge laugh at my production. I was so excited to show Neil my pictures that I got the mattresses in, but then Neil asked about the bases, that actually make beds head and feet go up and down. I told him I don't think they are going to fit, but they were too heavy for me to try. Worst case- the bases don't fit, but our mattresses do, so atleast we will have some comfort.
That weekend, Neil and I attempted to put the bases in and low and behold they fit, but then we had to remove shelves and one curtain bracket on each side to allow for head of bed to elevate withouth hitting anything. The base of the beds lifted it so high off the ground that we now need a step just to climp into bed. If we elevate the bed too high, our heads can touch the top of the bed slide.
Normally the mattress would go directly on top of the particle board, but with the bases it gives lots of air flow and less chance of condensation build up.
(One bed in , one to go)
DOWNSIDE!!!!! The mattress so far off the ground that we need a step stool to climb in; but that is ok, if it means having our comfortable mattress
