Damage to RV, 1st time out to practice. Blog post 9
So we, or should I say, me, wanted to start practicing in a large parking lot to back into spaces. We bought a couple dozen kids play cones to place for practicing. Well I never made it to even get the little cones out. I have been doing so well with my right turns, giving myself plenty of room for the turn. I was so excited to have gotten us to the mall safely, only several miles from our home. We planned for Neil to get out and I would drive the RV down, make 2 rights and then meet Neil to practice backing in, but I forgot on the 2nd turn to give myself plenty of room and when I turned I heard Neil yelling and alot of scraping noises. My heart sunk down into my stomach and I was about to cry even though I did not know the extent of the damage, or what I had hit. Neil instructed me immediately to reverse, and I heard that horrible scraping noise again. I got out and looked at the damage I had caused to the right middle stabililzer. It was no longer straight. It looked like it would never go down again.
When I made the turn too soon, the right middle stabilizer went over a curbed flower bed with a tree stump - Well the tree stump was a lot stronger than the stabilizer.
Oh I did break down and cry, A LOT. I was so upset that I caused damage to our new RV and we have not even taken it out on its 1st trip.
Neil reassured me that it was not as bad as it was. I think he was just trying to stop me from crying.
Neil ordered some special heavy duty strap that he was able to straighten the stablilzer back in place the best he could.
